Golden Fresh goes green

The Penang Green Office project was initiated by Ms Keong in September of last year.

The team started off by eliminating all personal trash bins. With centralized trash bins instead, office waste is properly segregated at source. Other initiatives include the start of using refillable markers and switching to LED light bulbs.

The “Get Smart Green Up!” policy looks into a few areas:

· Start it Green: Purchase locally and in bulk, opt for product with less packaging and waste, opt for energy saving appliances, opt for renewable energy.

· Reuse if not Reduce: Buy second hand or multipurpose machinery, pass unused stuff to others who need it.

· Save Paper Save Trees: Go digital, think twice before printing and print double sided if need be.

· Manage Waste Responsibly: Avoid single-use plastic, waste segregation, responsible e-waste disposal.

· Use Energy and Water Wisely: Use energy saving bulbs, maintain air-condition temperature, immediate fix of water leakages, the use dual flush system.
